Tips for Floor Marking

Applying Industrial Floor Tape

1 Prep the floor.  The floor needs to be clean and dry; We recommend cleaning with a light, non- chlorine based cleaner. *Note: Do not apply over existing tape or paint lines.

2 Peel the backing off the tape and apply in a clean dry area. For best results, tamp into place with at least 250 lbs of pressure after application.

3 Your installation is finished. Give the tape a good test with daily use to see how it is going to hold up. 

OSHA Regulations require that permanent aisles and passage ways must be marked. ANSI Z535.2 Safety Color Code designates Yellow as the caution color to be used for marking physical hazards such as stumbling, falling or tripping points.

Industrial Floor Marking Tapes are a simple, fast and inexpensive way to mark aisles compared to painted lines that can easily chip, peel, or crack especially in areas with heavier traffic. There is also a lot of downtime with painting having to close down an area and allow to dry before use again. 

Aisle Width

OSHA’s general requirement for aisles and passageways is that "sufficient safe clearances" must be provided where mechanical equipment is used. The width required does vary depending on how the area is utilized in the facility. As areas that use forklift and truck traffic will need to be wider than areas for pedestrian traffic. A good average size for aisle marking is 36".

Inside storage rooms containing flammable and combustible liquids, aisles must be at least 3 feet wide, and for emergency exit access points, 28 inches is the minimum allowed width.

Floor Tape Width

The required minimium width for facility aisle and floor marking tape lines is 2". Any width above that is considered acceptable by OSHA and ANSI. Typical applicatiosn use tape from 2" - 6" wide.
