  3. Compliance with Health and Safety Regulations
    As part of adhering to the state regulations and litigations, it is the responsibility of any workplace to invest in the safety of their employees. Employers are required to display appropriate safety signs dictating the level of danger ahead and effectively communicate the possible hazards.
    To regulate the posting of adequate signage, The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is an agency set up to ensure the safe working conditions of workers. Failure to do so, will instigate the fulfillment of litigation fines and possible legal lawsuits by employees.

Types of Safety Posters Required in a Workplace

Depending on the type of workplace, the signage will vary to communicate the nature of the labor taking place. Warehouses, manufacturing factories or construction sites require different kinds of signage that effectively indicate the potential hazards ahead. 

Typically, safety posters can be broken down into four categories such as:

  1. Prohibition Signs:
    These signs provide the visual of a red circular band with a slash across, forbidding the action that is most likely to cause the chain event of an accident.
    These particular signs, for instance, prohibit smoking or the entrance of unauthorized personnel in a designated location.
  2. Warning Signs:
    Typically associated with the color yellow, these warning signs indicate the possible dangerous areas within a vicinity. For instance, wet floors or to indicate the passage of mechanical equipment like forklifts are marked by such safety posters.
  3. Mandatory
    Commanding certain behaviors in the workplace is an effective tool against eliminating the threat of hazardous accidents. Such as, signage indicating fire emergencies are a part of safety regulations in the workplace.
  4. Emergency
    An essential part of employee safety posters are emergency signs which guide employees to safely navigate the workplace during a crisis. Marking fire exits or possible outlets to safely navigate through the building are an effective strategy to maintain safety regulations.

OSHA Requirements for Safety Poster

Osha, a regulatory agency, is designed to assess the safety working conditions of the workplace. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration ensures that construction sites, manufacturing factories and other workplaces are equipped with adequate safety equipment and employee safety posters to enable a secure working environment. 

As a regulatory agency, they have particular requirements to uphold a standard of safety posters, such as: 

  1. Employers are required to display a safety poster provided by Osha which informs workers of their rights under the OSH Act.
  2. The poster must be displayed in a designated area that is visible to a visiting faculty or the working employees.
  3. The poster should contain text in multiple languages of the general public, normally English however Spanish is advised as well.
